Cameron is a lawyer, company director, former Deputy Chancellor of The University of Sydney and a former ASIC chairman.
He replaces Keith Mason AC QC, former President of the Court of Appeal of New South Wales.
The Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation is an organisation that aims to raise awareness and reduce the incidence of mental health issues within the legal profession.
"The Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation is the heart of a great profession whereby people care, respect and support one another. I have Marie and George Jepson to thank for their tireless efforts in honouring the memory of their son Tristan; at all times helping others – they are the true drivers of positive change for the legal industry," said Mason.
Cameron described the organisation as an important initiative in the profession, and said that overseeing the introduction of the Foundation’s guidelines for legal work places was one of Mason’s many successes as chairman.
"Keith chaired the Foundation through a remarkably successful period in raising awareness of depression and anxiety in the legal profession. His years of dedication and service in the role of Chairman gave rise to the launch of our Psychological Wellbeing: Best Practice Guidelines for the Legal Profession and in less than a year boasts 88 signatories,” he said. “He has overseen in these Guidelines what is unquestionably the most important initiative ever undertaken to address the issue of wellbeing in the legal profession."
Founder and executive director Marie Jepson said the outgoing chairman leaves a considerable legacy. "Keith is a giant in the legal industry, loved and respected by all. We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Keith who has demonstrated a strong commitment to create healthier legal workplaces and understanding of those suffering mental health issues," she said.
