The National Pro Bono Day event was organised by the Refugee Advice and Casework Service
Sydney’s legal profession came together yesterday at the 2026 Walk for Justice event to commemorate National Pro Bono Day.
The Refugee Advice & Casework Service (RACS)-organised event was opened to law firms, legal practitioners, students and social justice supporters. The walk commenced at 12pm at Queens Square, before the Supreme Court of NSW building.
“It’s fitting for us to celebrate this wonderful tradition of the legal profession during Law Week. Pro bono is something we should rightly be proud of”, said Sarah Dale, RACS Centre director and principal solicitor. “Wherever you are dedicating your pro bono hours – for refugees, for Indigenous communities, for the environment, for the rights of the underserved – we celebrate your contribution to a kinder, more compassionate Australia”.
Walks were also hosted in other states.
Last year, RACS received support from law firms in the form of nearly 13,000 hours of pro bono work valued at over $6m. The Australian Pro Bono Centre revealed that almost 850,000 hours of pro bono legal work were conducted in the past financial year across Australia.
RACS is a non-profit organisation offering free legal services to refugees and those seeking asylum.
