New ACT DPP gets thumbs up from ACT Bar

The recent appointment of ACT Director of Public Prosecutions Victoria Engel SC has gotten a thumbs up from the ACT Bar Association.

Engel comes in from a stint as senior counsel at the Northern Territory Bar. She also served as deputy director of the NT Director of Public Prosecutions. ACT Bar Association President Brodie Buckland indicated that Engel’s experience and qualifications made her ideal for the role.

"Prosecutors make up a significant proportion of the membership of the Bar Association, and, as the new DPP, I look forward to working with Ms. Engel SC on matters of mutual interest and concern to the DPP’s office and the criminal defence bar", Buckland said.

Engel succeeds Anthony Williamson SC, who stepped in as acting director of public prosecutions “at short notice”.
