Law firm CEO says don’t forget the back office
William Sider, a US lawyer with more than three decades of experience at a law firm in Detroit and is now its CEO, has been sharing his experience of what it takes to lead a team. The firm, which has around 100 lawyers, was recently ranked in the top 20 medium sized law firms by the National Law Journal, and Sider told the Detroit Free Press that relationships are the key to leadership success. Looking after clients is important and valuing your legal team but so is recognising those in the firm that get none of the limelight… the back office: “These folks absolutely care about this place, and they allow us in the front office to focus almost entirely on the legal work. Somebody needs to make sure they have an appreciation for — and an understanding of — the back office features of running a law firm because they are critical.”
