Jones Day, Hall & Wilcox, Gilchrist Connell were among the firms to make changes to their ranks
Recently, Jones Day, Sparke Helmore, Hall & Wilcox, WRP Legal, Rigby Cooke Lawyers and Gilchrist Connell announced new appointments.
The firm beefed up its partnerships in Sydney and Brisbane with five heavy hitters from rival firms.
Sydney:
Leigh De Jong made the jump from MinterEllison, where he headed up the banking and finance practice in Sydney. He now joins Jones Day’s financial markets practice.
Christopher Flynn transitioned from Gilbert + Tobin, where he spearheaded the energy, resources and infrastructure practice. He becomes part of Jones Day’s energy team.
Lance Sacks made the move from Baker McKenzie, where he co-led its transactions practice in Australia. He joins Jones Day’s corporate team.
Ken Saurajen switched over from Clayton Utz, where he was co-partner in charge of its Sydney office and national technology law practice head. He becomes part of Jones Day’s IP team.
Brisbane:
Dylan McKimmie joined from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he was Brisbane office head and co-led its Australian energy practice. He commences with Jones Day’s global disputes practice.
The firm lured Tom Young from K&L Gates as a property partner. He has worked on major property and infrastructure projects, airports and aviation, tourism and hospitality, transport and regulatory matters; moreover, he has acted for the Queensland Tourism Industry Council as lawyer for over 20 years.
He brings with him special counsels Julie Brown and Borhan Borhani. They will operate from Brisbane.
The firm welcomed Zoe Tishler as a cyber and technology partner in Sydney.
The cyber and privacy lawyer is an expert in cyber incident response, advisory work and cyber-related disputes. She has worked with insurers, brokers and organisations.
She started with the firm on Monday 28 September.
The firm brought in Tanja Maley as a director in Sydney. She works with the firm’s M&A and corporate advisory team.
She has guided listed companies, companies seeking to list on the ASX, private equity sponsors, investment banks, brokers, venture capital investors and founders.
IP and brand protection expert Viviane Karoumbalis has joined the firm as a partner on its corporate and commercial, IP, and privacy and data protection teams.
She has tackled the strategic development, commercialisation and enforcement of valuable IP assets both domestically and overseas. She has worked on matters involving commercial contracting, technology and digital projects, consumer law compliance, privacy and data protection, and procurement matters.
The firm welcomed Peter Mariotto and Teron Stone as special counsel.
Mariotto focuses on commercial litigation and dispute resolution and is an expert in large infrastructure and property disputes, financial lines and regulatory matters. Stone is an insurance litigation specialist who has tackled motor injury, workers' compensation, public liability and general insurance matters.
