Six leading law firms have been recognised for their leadership in gender equality in the UK.

Ashurst, CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang, Eversheds Sutherland, Hogan Lovells, Linklaters, and Norton Rose Fulbright have been included in “The Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2018.” The annual list is backed by Business in the Community, one of The Prince’s Charities of Prince Charles.

The unranked and alphabetical list honours organisations in the UK that are making gender equality a key part of business strategy. These organisations have consistent commitment to creating inclusive workplace cultures and promoting the advancement of women in all levels.

Ashurst has been included in the list for the second year running, said Paul Jenkins, the firm’s managing partner.

“Receiving this accolade for our broader gender diversity programme will reinforce our efforts in the future – we remain very conscious of how much more needs to be done. We will be announcing our new partner promotions shortly, and the firm's focus on identifying and developing the pipeline of female leaders will be reflected in those appointments. The next few months will see a range of initiatives designed to support gender diversity in the partnership and a more inclusive culture for all of our partners and staff,” he said.

Penelope Warne, CMS senior partner, said that gender equality is “at the bedrock” of everything that the firm does. It is critical to attracting and retaining the best millennial and centennial talent and clients, she said.

“Ultimately, we want our firm to be a great place for our people to work. From our generous maternity scheme which includes a flexible return to work option, to our new mentoring and well-being programmes, we continue to introduce and improve policies and programs to ensure that our people feel supported and proud to be part of CMS,” Warne said.

Linklaters said that its comprehensive gender action plan includes pushing for agile working, equalising benefits, engaging men in changing gender equality narratives, ensuring women have greater opportunities, making gender targets public, and using data.

Professional services firms Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC have also been included in the list.
