Kasowitz Benson Torres scores ‘Trump Bump’
The law firm of the man defending the US President in the Russia probe has cracked a prestigious law firm ranking.

Kasowitz Benson Torres, the firm founded by Marc Kasowitz, has entered the top 100 of Vault’s rankings of the most prestigious law firms in the US because of a “Trump Bump,” The New York Times reported. The firm now sits at the 99th spot in the rankings drawn from a survey of 18,000 associates, who rank firms other than their own.

Matt Moody, Vault’s senior editor who manages the rankings, said that prestige is not defined and that firms that are making headlines or have big deals often move up the rankings.

Mood said, however, that the survey was taken in spring – even before Kasowitz was picked by US President Donald Trump to defending him in the US government’s probe into ties between Russia and the Trump campaign. Kasowitz was chosen after the Trump camp came up empty handed after approaching several of America’s most prestigious firms to defend the president.

Kasowitz was already then in the news for representing Trump in his business matters, including defamation suits connected to Trump University. He has been Trump’s personal lawyer for about 15 years.

Meanwhile, Cravath, Swaine & Moore retained its top ranking in the list, followed  Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, according to data from The New York Times DealBook and Above the Law.

The top 10 in the Vault rankings are:
1. Cravath, Swaine & Moore
2. Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz
3. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom
4. Sullivan & Cromwell
5. Davis Polk & Wardwell
6. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett
7. Latham & Watkins
8. Kirkland & Ellis
9. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher
10. Weil, Gotshal & Manges
