Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has announced the promotion of eight partners in Australia as of 1 May.

For the first time in Australia, the firm has promoted a partner to its digital legal delivery practice group, a multi-disciplinary team consisting of lawyers, legal analysts, technologists, e-discovery professionals, and legal project managers. Melbourne-based Emily Coghlan leads the digital legal technology and legal teams within the digital legal delivery practice group. She is a commercial litigation lawyer focusing on class actions.

“The appointment of Emily Coghlan to partner in our Digital Legal Delivery practice group is another step in our history of leading on digital investment and innovation to deliver digital solutions to our clients,” said Kirstin Stammer, executive partner – Asia and Australia.

The other promoted partners are as follows:

  • Michael D’Agostino, based in Melbourne, has 12 years of experience delivering projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He has tackled matters involving clean and renewable technologies and rail, oil, gas, and mining projects.
  • Gabby Herron-Cartwright, based in Brisbane, has over 15 years of experience assisting clients with financing and developing energy and infrastructure projects. She handles projects focused on energy transition.
  • Tamanna Islam, based in Sydney, has more than a decade of experience practising in the areas of financial services regulation and wealth management. She focuses on insurance, superannuation, and financial advice and distribution.
  • Geoff Kerrigan, based in Perth, has worked in the mining and energy transition sectors. He advises companies and private capital investors on M&A transactions and investments into mineral projects in Australia and beyond.
  • Madeleine Miller, based in Melbourne, has experience advising on M&A, joint ventures, and other corporate transactions, mainly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. She has handled matters involving project structuring and development and commercial contracts.
  • Eunice Park, based in Sydney, is a litigator focused on external regulatory and internal company investigations, commercial disputes, and corporate governance. She has represented clients across courts, arbitration tribunals, and commissions of inquiry.
  • Li-Lian Yeo, based in Sydney, has over 15 years of experience in M&A. She represents private equity sponsors, credit funds, portfolio companies, and corporate clients on corporate and commercial transactions.

Along with the promotions in Australia, HSF has elevated 19 others to the partnership around the world. Globally, the firm said it has hired 23 lateral partners so far in the current financial year.

The promotions announcement follows the recently announced approval of the combination between the HSF and Kramer Levin. Early this month, the two entities confirmed that their respective partnerships voted to combine. The merged firm will operate as Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer (HSF Kramer) starting 1 June.
