HSF advises Pizza Hut on Eagle Boys buy

More than 50 Eagle Boys stores will be rebranded to Pizza Hut boosting its Australian footprint to more than 320 stores.

Herbert Smith Freehills advised the master franchisee for Pizza Hut in Australia on its acquisition of the Eagle Boys business from its administrators.

The acquisition will see more than 50 Eagle Boys stores being rebranded to Pizza Hut, increasing Pizza Hut’s overall store count in Australia to more than 320.

Partners Mark Currell and Kristin Stammer led the HSF team which included senior associates Sami Wilson and Jacob Kahwaji, and solicitor Tess Mierendorff. The transaction required specialist expertise in key areas including mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, intellectual property and franchising.

“We are delighted to have assisted the Pizza Hut team on this strategic acquisition, which has created opportunities to grow the distribution and brand presence of Pizza Hut in Australia,” said Herbert Smith Freehills partner Mark Currell.

The administrators of Eagle Boys were advised by RBG Lawyers.

Currell and Stammer were also the lead partners when HSF advised private equity firm Allegro Funds when it acquired the Australian master franchise of Pizza Hut from global owner Yum! Brands in a deal that closed in September.

Allens advised Yum! Brands with a team led by partners Vijay Cugati, Andrew Wiseman, Veronica Siow and Fiona Crosbie in the deal. Crosbie was recently named the first ever Allens woman chairperson.
