HSF acted in tech startup’s $15 million capital raise

Australian tech company Nura has raised $15 million in capital, with Blackbird Ventures leading the latest investment round by adding $10 million to its initial investment in 2017. Nura was advised on the capital raise by Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF).

HSF partner Peter Dunne led the team that advised Nura, assisted by solicitor Claire Bamford. “Blackbird Ventures’ follow-on investment in Nura highlights the strong interest that investors continue to have in Australian technology companies,” said Dunne. “We are pleased to have partnered with Nura at an important point in the company’s expansion, following our work with the company in relation to its seed round.”

Melbourne-based Nura manufactures the award-winning nuraphone, a headphone that uses otoacoustic emissions generated by the inner ear to automatically adjust to a user’s hearing.

"After the headphones launched in quarter four last year, the early customer response really forced us to talk to the team about making most of this opportunity and be able to meet the demand we saw was there," said Blackbird Ventures partner Nick Crocker.

The tech startup was originally crowdfunded and raised an Australian record of $1.8 million from Kickstarter in 2016. With this recent investment round, Nura has managed to raise a total $21 million since its founding.
