Hogan Lovells fields cross-border team for refinancing of global health club chain
Hogan Lovells fielded a cross-border team of lawyers to advise an international banking syndicate on the multijurisdictional refinancing of the Virgin Active group, one of the world’s leading health club operators.

Lawyers from the firm’s offices in Sydney, Johannesburg, London, Madrid, Milan, and Singapore played key roles in the deal, as the firm advised on the structuring, documenting, negotiating, and closing of the refinancing.
The Hogan Lovells Australia team was comprised of partner Richard Hayes, senior associate Francis Booth, associate Sherry Khalili, and law graduate Eric Van Winssen.

Virgin Active was acquired by South African Company Brait in 2015 from CVC Capital Partners and Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group. It now has more than 245 clubs in ten countries in four continents, 1.2 million gym members, and an enterprise value of $2.6bn. Allen & Overy also advised on the deal.
