Appointment marks second major hire in less than a month

Global law firm Simmons & Simmons has appointed a new partner to its Asia employment practice as it makes headway on its expansion plans for the second half of 2017.
The firm tapped employment law specialist May Lu for its Shanghai branch, bringing the number of Asia-based employment partners to four. This also marks the second partner appointment in less than a month, after Matthew Durham transferred from Winston & Strawn last August.
Paul Li, head of the firm’s Asia practice, said Lu has valuable experience in investigations and litigation. She previously worked for MWE China Law Offices – a strategic alliance with US firm McDermott Will & Emery – where she advised on labour and employment law, investigations, and labour arbitrations in China.
“Our international client base will benefit from the experience and coverage which four partners can deliver. My colleagues and I look forward to working with May, who has much to offer both the firm and our diverse client base,” said Fiona Loughrey, head of the firm’s employment practice in Asia.
Simmons & Simmons has also expanded its Greater China corporate and commercial practice this year, with partner Michael Chin joining from Hogan Lovells in July and Jingyuan Shi being promoted into the partnership last May.
