The firm welcomes back a partner from a major bank, and promotes a special counsel to partner
Norton Rose Fulbright is welcoming two new members to the firm’s partnership in Australia. with the appointments of Adam Edelman and Raymond Lou.
Edelman, is returning to the firm from an in-house role at HSBC, where he worked out of Hong Kong, Dubai, and London, in roles that includes associate general counsel for mergers and acquisitions.
Since working at the major bank from 2012, he has acted on deals in more than 30 countries. Edelman joins the firm’s Perth office in September.
Lou, a specialist in public and private M&A and corporate governance, has been promoted from special counsel, a post he has held for more than two years. Working from the firm’s Sydney office, he advises on large cross-border deals in sectors that includes energy and resources, infrastructure, and financial institutions.
Lou, a native Mandarin speaker, is also experienced in corporate restructuring, private equity, leveraged acquisition, and equity capital markets. He joins the partnership on 1 July.
The lateral hire and promotion follow a number of partner promotions and recruiting for the global firm in Australia. In May, the firm confirmed the promotions of corporate and M&A partner Jyoti Singh (Melbourne), banking and finance partner James Morris (Sydney), and insurance partner Matthew Ellis (Melbourne).
Since January 2016, the firm has added eight lateral partners in Australia: Peter Lamont, Ellen Thomas, Jacques Jacobs, Samantha Kelly, Peter Bowden, Samantha Maddern, Katherine Morris, and Karo Lelai (principal in Port Moresby).
Norton Rose Fulbright and Henry Davis York recently announced plans to merge, which will make the firm to the second largest global law firm in Australia and among the five largest law firms in the country. It will have around 160 partners and offices in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates our continuing investment in our national corporate practice,” said Wayne Spanner, Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia.
He said Edelman’s international experience will be an asset to the firm’s global, regional, and national corporate teams.
Spanner also said that Lou is a rising star in the firm’s corporate practice, his strong cross-border deals record, M&A expertise, and fluency in Mandarin will bolster the firm’s Australian and Asia Pacific offering.
