The bank has tapped a Magic Circle alumnus for the top job

One of the world’s largest financial institutions has consolidated its general counsel post and appointed a former partner of a Magic Circle firm to the job.
Florian Drinhausen will become Deutsche Bank’s general counsel next year, succeeding joint general counsels Christof von Dryander and Simon Dodds.
Drinhausen will assume von Dryander’s responsibilities on 1 January after the latter leaves the bank at the end of the year. Drinhausen becomes sole general counsel, who is also responsible for the bank’s governance structures across the globe, on 1 April after Dodd leaves the bank on 31 March.
The incoming global general counsel was a partner at Linklaters before joining Deutsche Bank in 2014 as Europe, Middle East, and Africa general counsel. He was appointed to the company’s global governance function last year.
Von Dryander joined the bank in 2013 from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he was a partner. He was formerly general counsel for Germany and Central & Eastern Europe and global general counsel for the bank’s asset and wealth management and private and business client divisions.
Dodds, who also came from Cleary Gottlieb, joined the bank in 1999 as general counsel for the UK. In 2002, Dodds also became the bank’s general counsel for Western Europe and he was appointed as global head of compliance in 2010.
