Ex-Media Arts Lawyers partner Rob Glass launches entertainment law firm with Julian Hewitt

Rob Glass has launched an entertainment, music and media law boutique in Sydney with colleague Julian Hewitt following the recent closure of Media Arts Lawyers.

The newly christened Hewitt Glass will concentrate on music, entertainment, and M&A and corporate advisory. Both Glass and Hewitt will be managing partners, and they bring with them a client base that includes the likes of RÜFÜS DU SOL, Dom Dolla, Matt Corby, Tones And I, The Veronicas, Beyond the Valley, Abbie Chatfield, Dylan Alcott and Joff Bush. The firm’s clients have appeared at major events like Coachella and performed in iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden.

Glass and Hewitt will also guide production companies, entrepreneurs and investors. They will tackle matters involving recording, publishing and touring agreements as well as catalogue transactions, IP strategy, entertainment financing, acquisitions and AI.

“Australian artists and entertainment businesses are achieving success on a scale that would have been difficult to imagine even a decade ago. As those careers and businesses become more sophisticated, the legal and commercial challenges become more complex as well. We created Hewitt Glass to provide specialist advice that reflects the realities of today's global entertainment market”, Glass said.

Hewitt added that IP, technology and strategic transactions are now moulding the creator economy.

“Artists, creators and rights holders are thinking more strategically about ownership, growth and long-term value creation than ever before. Our goal is to help clients navigate that environment with advice that combines deep entertainment industry knowledge with strong commercial and corporate expertise”, he said.

Glass has built a name spearheading music festival-related transactions in New Zealand, while Hewitt was the first Music Industry Observer Music Lawyer of the Year. In 2024, Media Arts Lawyers became the first APAC-based firm to make Billboard’s Top Music Lawyers list, with both Glass and Hewitt getting special shoutouts. That year, Glass helped Dom Dolla secure a residency deal at the Fontainebleau Hotel's LIV Las Vegas nightclub, and even watched his client perform at Coachella.

Last week, Media Arts Lawyers founder David Vodicka also opened the doors of his new firm David Vodicka Music & Entertainment Lawyers. In 2025, Media Arts Lawyers' first female partner, Yasmin Naghavi, departed the firm to launch media and entertainment boutique Artis Causa in Melbourne.
