The Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited (ALS) has named a new chair in director Jason Allan.

Allan has been a director at ALS for the past two years, and has spent more than 25 years working through federal, state and local government agencies to benefit community, the organisation said.

The Kamilaroi and Ngunnawal man was elected as CEO of the Walhallow Local Aboriginal Land Council in 2008, a role he still holds. He is also a Liverpool Plains Shire councillor.

In addition, Allan previously recorded tenures with ATSIC and Aboriginal Hostels Canberra.

“I look forward continuing the fight for social justice and equity as chairperson of Australia’s oldest Aboriginal Legal Service”, he said.

Allan succeeds outgoing chair Mark Davies, who will stay on as an ALS member. Davies resigned from the post after three years at the helm.

Allan’s selection as the new chair took place at a board meeting on 25 August.
