With thriving start-up and SME sectors, the firm saw the need to expand with a physical presence in Queensland
LegalVision has opened an office in Brisbane, tapping an experienced commercial lawyer to lead the office as the newest practice leader of the firm.
Helen Kay, who has more than 15 years’ experience working in corporate and commercial law, was most recently head of corporate and commercial at Perth boutique firm Panetta McGrath Lawyers. Her career includes stints as senior solicitor at Freehills and Allens Arthur Robinson. She also ran her own legal practice in Perth.
The opening of the new office is a response to the growing needs of its clients, particularly because Queensland’s start-up and SME sectors are thriving, the firm said. It bolsters the firm’s east coast footprint and comes after the opening of a Melbourne office early last year.
Last August, LegalVision secured $4.2m in capital after a Series B financing round led by Gilbert + Tobin.
“Queensland is one of our most important markets so expansion was a natural fit. The state is exploding with start-ups and SMEs, and many of our enterprise clients are located in Brisbane. In particular, the city’s $5m investment into innovation and the Brisbane 2022 New World City Action Plan brings exciting opportunity for collaboration and partnerships,” said Lachlan McKnight, LegalVision CEO.
The NewLaw firm, which serves clients across Australia through its technology-driven model, said that the physical presence in Brisbane is an important move to meet client demand. LegalVision now has offices in the capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
LegalVision originally started as an online documents business before pivoting to become a legal marketplace. About two and a half years ago, the firm added an incorporated legal practice to the business. The NewLaw firm now has more than 80 lawyers, developers, and strategy and marketing professionals.
