Managing partner highlights his firm’s partnership path and a string of appointments of lawyers who have been hired from other firms.
HWL Ebsworth has appointed Matthew Craven as a partner in its Information Technology and Intellectual Property team in Melbourne.
Craven, who specialises in technology law and intellectual property, comes from Corrs Chambers Westgarth where he was most recently a Special Counsel.
HWL Ebsworth managing partner Juan Martinez highlighted what he said is his firm’s clearer path to partnership while commenting on the new appointment.
"I am particularly excited that we continue to be presented with opportunities to recruit some of Australia's most impressive, up-and-coming talent from firms that do not appear to be able to match our ability to offer a straight forward and transparent path to partnership,” Martinez said.
“Matthew is the latest in a string of such appointments for HWL Ebsworth, and follows closely behind the recruitment of Josh Messing and Sam Dundas from Herbert Smith Freehills and Sophie Given from Sparke Helmore.
“We will continue to offer technically and commercially gifted lawyers an opportunity to reach their potential as a partner in the absence of any artificial glass ceilings.”
Craven specialises in large scale technology, IT and telecommunications projects including IT & business process outsourcing, software and system implementations and technology procurement. He also advises on privacy and data protection.
The new partner advises companies, research organisations and start-ups in relation to the development, protection and licensing of intellectual property, joint venture arrangements, distribution arrangements, franchising, advertising and trace practices, technology disputes and general commercial matters, according to HWL Ebsworth.
“Matthew's skills and background complement our existing Information Technology and Intellectual Property practice spread across eight offices,” said Martinez.
“His experience in advising clients on complex technology and intellectual property-related matters, as well as his industry knowledge and strategic approach, will be incredibly valuable to HWL Ebsworth and our clients,” Martinez added.
