In a statement, the firm said that van der Reyden will work closely with Maurice Thompson, partner and national group head (maritime & commodities) and the marine group’s other significant recent hire, partner Ernest van Buuren.

“Nic's arrival is a crucial next step in the development of our marine group in Australia, following the recent hire of Ernest van Buuren,” said Thompson. “Nic's broad-based marine practice and strong reputation in the market will bolster our offering to clients and the marine market in Australia and greater APAC. Having worked closely with him in previous roles, I know Nic is an excellent fit for the firm and our clients."

“I see huge opportunities for the growth of my practice as part of Clyde & Co's marine group in Australia, the wider APAC region and indeed globally, where Clyde & Co has a preeminent maritime law practice globally and a long-held reputation for excellence,” said van der Reyden. “I am excited to be joining a group of driven and forward-thinking lawyers who work together with a genuine team ethos to deliver the best quality service to clients.”
