Clifford Chance names new head of litigation and dispute resolution in Japan

Clifford Chance has looked to one of Japan’s top firms for its newest partner.

Peter Coney has joined the firm’s partnership and will head the litigation and dispute resolution team in Tokyo. He comes from Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, where he was a foreign law partner.

Coney is known for his expertise in international arbitration and litigation, contentious regulatory, and employment. He has been active in the Tokyo legal market for more than a decade and his clients are from both the public and private sectors, including the manufacturing, construction and infrastructure, energy, financial services, and telecommunications industries.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter to the team. His dispute resolution expertise will provide clients with the further support they need as they continue to invest in Japan and abroad,” said Nish Shetty, who heads the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution group in the Asia-Pacific region.

Clifford Chance recently expanded its global leadership with the addition of partners David DiBari and Connie Heng to the wider leadership team. DiBari leads the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution group in the Americas, while Heng is the Asia-Pacific capital markets head.
