Clayton Utz has revealed the firm’s new deputy CEP following the appointment of Emma Covacevich to CEP.

Nick Cooper, who is a partner in the firm’s Perth office, will step up to his new position on 1 July. The firm confirmed that he was Covacevich’s choice for the role.

“Nick is well-known and respected both as a lawyer and leader. He understands what it takes to build a successful practice, as well as the operational aspects of running a business. He is a strategic thinker, deeply loyal to our firm and, like me, is invested in our continued success,” Covacevich said. “I'm looking forward to our working together, and building on Clayton Utz's reputation as a firm that truly understands and is responsive and adaptive to our clients' needs, and those of our people.”

At present, Cooper heads up the firm’s national commercial litigation team. He has been with Clayton Utz since 2004, and led the Perth office as partner-in-charge from 2014-2020.

“I'm honoured to be stepping into a senior leadership role working alongside Emma. My approach to leadership has always been about collaboration, transparency and being true to your values,” he said. “I'm also invested in our continuing to foster the fantastic culture we have at this firm, and ensuring that our clients' experience reflects the exceptionally high standards we set for ourselves. It's exciting to be part of this next stage of our evolution as we respond to the opportunities and embrace the challenges of being in a competitive legal market.”

Covacevich was announced as Clayton Utz’s CEP elect in December.
