Bird & Bird teams up with Sydney Convicts Rugby Club on community engagement

Bird & Bird Australia is teaming up with the Sydney Convicts Rugby Club – the first inclusive rugby club in Australia – on a series of community engagement projects.

The partnership reflects the firm’s commitment to inclusion, community engagement and “the power of sport to drive positive change”, the firm said. As the club’s major partner for the 2026 season, Bird & Bird will collaborate with the club across the men’s, women’s, and developing teams, providing support through branding, match-day presence, Pride initiatives and community events.

“Having Bird & Bird Australia come on board as major partner is incredibly meaningful for our club. Their support enables us to continue growing the game in an inclusive way, support our players across all teams, and strengthen our impact both locally and internationally - including as we prepare to compete at the Bingham Cup in Brisbane in 2026”, said James Moorey, Sydney Convicts president.

Bird & Bird Australia co-managing partner Rich Hawkins, who heads the firm’s Australian sports law team, added that the alliance showed a robust values alignment.

“The Sydney Convicts represent everything we value in sport and in our wider community - inclusion, respect, teamwork and excellence. We’re proud to partner with a club that continues to lead meaningful change, not just on the field, but across Australian sport more broadly”, Hawkins said.

The Sydney Convicts have championed diversity and equality in Australian sports since 2004.
