US Supreme Court justice bags MTV award

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has one more accolade that proves she’s a cultural icon.

The US Supreme Court justice took home the “best real-life hero” award on Monday at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Ginsburg, who was not at the awards ceremony to receive the tribute, went up against rock climber Alex Honnold, comedian Hannah Gadsby, wrestler Roman Reigns, and tennis player Serena Williams in the category.

Ginsburg – who is sometimes affectionately referred to as the “Notorious RBG,” a play on the name of rapper Notorious B.I.G. – was nominated because of the documentary RBG. All nominees were featured in a movie or TV Show.

RBG was also nominated for the “Best Fight” award, but the Captain Marvel versus Minn-Erva fight in the Captain Marvel movie won. The other category nominees were the Captain America versus Thanos fight in Avengers: Engame, the Arya Stark versus the White Walkers fight in Game of Thrones, and the Becky Lynch versus Ronda Rousey versus Charlotte Flair fight in WWE Wrestlemania.

The documentary was also nominated alongside Surviving R. Kelly, At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal, McQueen, and Minding the Gap for “Best Documentary.” Surviving R. Kelly won.
