McElroys Litigation Lawyers has welcomed Andrew Colgan to its partnership.

Colgan, who joined the firm in 2010, has been included in NZ Lawyers’ 2020 Rising Stars list, which recognizes up-and-coming stars in the legal profession and their contributions to the betterment of society.

Colgan will assume a leadership role for McElroys marine team and will act for and advise marine insurance and industry clients. He has extensive experience in civil litigation, specializing in maritime and professional indemnity law. His work involves resolving disputes internationally, working with clients across different jurisdictions.

Colgan has also shown a soft spot for marginalized sectors, which has led him to co-establish ADC Microfinance, a New Zealand-based organisation that provides financial services to impoverished communities in Malawi and Myanmar. To date, the group has granted more than 10,000 loans, totalling more than US$2.5m, to small enterprises in these countries, 85% of which are owned by women.
