MinterEllisonRuddWatts’ Cathy Quinn will not seek re-election as chair at the end of the year.
The firm will elect a new chair with an announcement expected by mid-December 2016.
After stepping down, Quinn, who has been chair for more than 8 years, will focus on leading Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions practice in the firm, and developing a non-executive director portfolio.
MinterEllisonRuddWatts has also revealed that Quinn has just been appointed to the main Treasury Board having served on the Commercial advisory Board to the Treasury since its inception.
“Cathy has being an outstanding leader of this firm as chair and contributed enormously to its success. Cathy took the reins in 2009 just as the GFC was really starting to bite globally,” said CEO Mike Schubert.
“She rose to the challenge and saw the opportunity this presented, steered the firm towards many accomplishments, including becoming a leader in diversity, winning numerous legal and business awards and performing strongly during an economic downturn,” Schubert added of corporate and commercial lawyer.
Quinn is highly-regarded for her specialist legal work in mergers, acquisitions, securities law, corporate governance and private equity.
Regularly sought out by international and local clients for her expertise in the areas in which she practises, she has particular expertise with Directors Duties and was a past co-author of one of the leading company and securities law texts in New Zealand, Morison’s On Company and Securities Law. She is also the principal author of MinterEllisonRuddWatts’ White Paper on Corporate Governance.
Quinn was a member of the Securities Commission for 9 years and the only lawyer appointed to the Government’s Capital Markets Development Taskforce, giving her a unique insight into policy considerations underpinning our securities and capital markets.
She has been a member of the Commercial Advisory Board to the New Zealand Treasury and is a member of the Executive Board of the New Zealand China Trade Council.
Quinn made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her contribution to the law and women.
