Name change for Ince parent firm

Gordon Dadds Group will rebrand to better reflect the brand that the firm uses for legal services around the world.

It means that the parent company will become The Ince Group subject to a vote by partners later this year. Gordon Dadds acquired the London and China offices of Ince & Co at the end of 2018 and further international offices in April 2019.

The Gordon Dadds name will not be lost from the UK legal market though as it will be retained for the firm’s private client and family practice in London’s prestigious Mayfair.

Litigation funder Burford reacts after stock plunge

Burford Capital says that it believes short sellers are engaging in activity designed to weaken its share price.

The litigation funding firm says that it is investigating rumours of a “bear raid” alongside external litigation counsel and will take legal action if it is appropriate.

The firm was reacting to a sharp fall in its share price on Monday this week, which it believes was due to “actionable misconduct” by short sellers.

It says that it knows no operational or corporate reason for its share volatility, given that it recently posted the best results in its history showing strong liquidity and robust returns.

It also highlights the use of the same accounting methods that are common across the financial services industry and that it has consistently shown clean auditing records from Ernst & Young.

The firm says it will continue to focus on growing its market and its long-term goals.

Dentons announces “non-traditional” merger in South Korea

Dentons has announced another expansion following recent additions in New Zealand and Honduras.

The firm will combine with South Korea’s Lee International; but it is not a traditional merger as the South Korean operation will be 100% owned and controlled by Korean partners from the local community.

“With this combination, Dentons will be the only global law firm permitted to practice Korean law, offering clients high-quality legal counsel and business solutions,” said Joe Andrew, Global Chairman of Dentons. “This combination is an illustration of Dentons’ strategy to scale the business in dynamic and growing regions.”
