Legal training provider takes on 12 new instructors

The Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS) has appointed new instructors in all five of its learning centres.

“We are very pleased to welcome these new instructors to our national team,” said Bernadette Wilson, IPLS National Director. “Each one brings a wealth of experience gained both internationally and domestically and is fully committed to ensuring IPLS graduates enter the workplace with a high level of professionalism and practical skills.”

The new Auckland instructors are:

• Glenn Satherley, who has more than 20 years’ experience in litigation, appearing in both the High Court and Court of Appeal and for the past six years has been practicing as a barrister sole.
• Justin Kleinbaum who, when not at IPLS, is a Team Leader, Legal and Technical Services with the IRD.
• Stephanie Mead, currently a PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Law, University of Auckland and a Barrister who undertakes dispute resolution and provides advice on property, resource management, environmental and planning law matters.
• Davida Dunphy is a former Senior Associate from Bell Gully experienced in all aspects of commercial property work with particular focus on large-scale commercial development, acquisitions/disposals and leasing/portfolio management. 

Wellington:

• Maria Deligiannis, who recently worked as the Team Leader/ Crown Counsel of the Tax and Commercial Team, Crown Law, Deligiannis has been advising a number of client departments on a wide range of commercial and litigation matters.
• Louise Elder has extensive experience across a wide range of jurisdictions as a litigator. Her areas of practice include criminal law, family law, youth work, civil litigation and compliance prosecutions.
• Michael Wilson was a litigator in Auckland for a number of years and has also served as Senior Advisor to two Cabinet Ministers, including the Minister of Immigration and the Attorney-General.  
• Peter Foster is currently working as a Barrister specialising in Criminal and Family law. He appears regularly in the Family, Youth and District Courts and has appeared on numerous occasions in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. 

Dunedin:

• Kate Lash, who specialises in litigation regularly appearing in the family court. She has been appointed as a Lawyer for Child and currently works with Aspinall Joel as well as undertaking work on behalf of the Dunedin Women’s Refuge and other community organisations.
• Maree McDonald, who started her legal career working for the Ministry of Justice in the Family Court. She has a special interest in complex relationship property cases and international family law.

Furthermore, Rebecca Chisholm, who joined the Hamilton team, has been working with Beattie Rickman Legal where her case load involved a broad range of family law matters, including parenting matters under the Care of Children Act, domestic violence, relationship property, adoption, paternity and protection of personal and property rights.

Finally, before joining the Christchurch team, Anne Toohey worked as a Crown prosecutor, as Crown Counsel acting in appellate and international law jurisdictions and for private clients in civil and employment litigation. She has been an advocacy skills instructor for the New Zealand Police Prosecution Service since 2007.

IPLS is a private training establishment that has been granted registration by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under Part 18 of the Education Act 1989.
