Law Society of England and Wales taps former Olympics procurement director as interim CEO

The Law Society of England and Wales has elected former Olympics procurement director Gerry Walsh as its interim CEO.

“Gerry Walsh brings a wealth of experience to the Law Society and, working with our existing team, will help maintain continuity and momentum during an important time for the solicitors’ profession,” President I. Stephanie Boyce said.

In addition to serving as the procurement director for the 2012 London Olympics, Walsh was previously an interim chief executive for the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply. He is a seasoned consultant and senior executive with much experience in infrastructure.

Walsh takes the reins from Paul Tennant, who stepped down following a five-year run as CEO.

“I’m looking forward to working with the team at the Law Society, helping build on its achievements and making sure it is in the best shape possible for its new permanent chief executive,” Walsh said.

He commenced his term on Thursday, and will remain in the post until a permanent successor is named for Tennant.
