The two industry veterans bring more than 35 years of combined experience to the firm

Kensington Swan starts the year with two new special counsel and two new senior associates.

The firm has appointed Marija Batistich, who comes from Bell Gully, as special counsel at the firm’s environment and planning team in Auckland. She joined the firm on 23 January.

The firm has also promoted Duncan Halliwell, who specialises in construction and infrastructure, to special counsel. Kensington Swan has also promoted Natalie Amos and Tom McLaughlin to senior associates.

Batistich joins the firm with 20 years’ experience as a specialist in resource management and environmental law. She has particular expertise in consenting major infrastructure and is also practiced in public law and liquor licensing.

According to Kensington Swan, Batistich’s appointment is part of a wider commitment to further improve its infrastructure and commercial offerings to clients, particularly in the area of its Environment & Planning practice. She will work alongside partners Christina Sheard (Auckland) and Nicky McIndoe (Wellington) and senior associates Natalie Amos (Auckland), Frances Wedde (Wellington), and Ezekiel Hudspith (Wellington).

Halliwell had previously worked for the largest construction law team in the UK before joining Kensington Swan in 2007. With over 15 years’ experience in the construction and infrastructure space, he focuses on contract documentation on large-scale commercial, infrastructure and residential projects including PPPs. He is also experienced in dispute resolution including in court, arbitration, mediation expert determination and conciliation.

Amos is the newest senior associated at the firm’s Environment & Planning practice. She has nine years’ experience specialising in large scale projects and strategic issues. McLaughlin is the newest senior associate in the firm’s Financial Markets practice. He is recognised specifically for his advice on the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 and his work on structuring, disclosure, acquisitions and general regulatory compliance obligations.
