Simmons & Simmons has re-elected Colin Passmore as senior partner for a further four-year period beginning 1st August 2017.

It will be Passmore’s third term in the role having been elected in 2011. He joined the firm in 1986 in the Hong Kong office and made partner in 1990, a year before relocating to Abu Dhabi.

His practice focuses on litigation for financial institutions, professional services firms and insurance entities.

Herbert Smith Freehills has advised TC Advisors Australia Investment Management Pty. Ltd on the largest property deal of the year so far.

The sale of the office building at 50 Marcus Clarke Street, Canberra to South Korea’s Mirae Asset Financial was valued at AU$321 million. The building’s tenants include the federal government.

The HSF team was led by senior associate Carla Deluca and solicitor Emma Larkin and supervised by partner David Sinn.

Trademark infringement rising say c-suite execs
Most c-suite executives say that trademark infringement is rising according to a survey from Compumark.

The poll conducted across the US and Europe reveals the extent to which globalisation has opened up the opportunity for infringement of trademarks with 63 per cent of respondents saying their business has been negatively impacted by infringement and 53 per cent forced to take legal action.

The top 3 impacts of trademark infringement cited by respondents were loss of revenue (26 per cent), damage to brand reputation (21 per cent) and customer confusion (21 per cent).

Most (94 per cent) of the executives were confident that their organization had taken the necessary steps to ensure trademarks were cleared across all jurisdictions and 41 per cent said budgets had been increased for this purpose.
