International firms announce expansion
Two international law firms have announced expansion of their capabilities through partnerships with local firms.

CMS has become the first international firm to secure a combination with a full-service local law firm in Monaco as PCM AVOCATS becomes part of CMS.

It brings the total number of CMS offices to 71 in 40 countries, with a headcount of 7,500 including more than 1,000 partners. The firm has already added several firms in Latin America this year and merged with Nabarro and Olswang.

Meanwhile, the WongPartnership has formed an alliance with Philippine law firm Zambrano Gruba Caganda & Advincula (ZGLaw). It brings the Singapore-based firm’s regional network to nine across China, the Middle East and ASEAN.

ZGLaw has 20 lawyers and is headed by Ms Lily Gruba, a prominent tax lawyer, who founded the firm in 1993 with the late Daisy G. Zambrano. The two firms have worked closely on several matters.

Corrs commits to Financial Inclusion Action Plan
Corrs Chambers Westgarth has become only the second Australian law firm to commit to a financial inclusion program run by Good Shepherd Microfinance.

Corrs will expand its pro bono offering through its Financial Inclusion Action Plan and will collaborate with other organisations to increase financial resilience in Australia.

The Good Shepherd program is run on behalf of the Australian government and also includes Ashurst which was appointed an independent reviewer to ensure the program is managed appropriately. As of last month, 30 organisations had signed up.

Simmons & Simmons expands with Hogan Lovells partner
Michael Chin has joined the Hong Kong corporate and commercial practice of Simmons & Simmons as a partner, subject to regulatory approvals.

He joins from Hogan Lovells with two decades of experience of corporate transactions across Asia Pacific, particularly in private equity and venture capital.

The hire follows the recently announced partner promotion of Jingyuan Shi who focuses on private equity and venture capital transactions in the TMT sector in China.
