Hogan Lovells announces new Asia-Pac association
Global law firm Hogan Lovells has announced a new association in Asia-Pacific. The tie-up is with Indonesian firm Dewi Negara Fachri & Partners and is effective immediately.
Hogan Lovells has also hired a new corporate partner in Singapore, Noor Meurling, who will be the lead for building the relationship between the two firms. The M&A specialist joins from Ashurst in Jakarta.
Although the US-based firm has had a presence in Asia-Pacific for 30 years, the announcement is part of a new push into the region reflecting its importance in the global economy.
 
Senior partner announced at Mayer Brown JSM
Terence Tung has been appointed senior partner at Mayer Brown JSM, based in Hong Kong. He succeeds Elaine Lo, who is stepping down after 9 years in the role; she will remain as a partner and head of the firm’s China practice.
Tung has been with the firm for more than 30 years and made partner in 1989. His practice focuses primarily on litigation and dispute resolution. His previous leadership roles include managing partner at the firm’s Beijing office.
 
Insolvency, restructuring hire for NRF in Melbourne
Norton Rose Fulbright has hired experienced insolvency and restructuring lawyer Peter Bowden as a partner in its Melbourne office. He joins from Clayton Utz where he has spent the last five years following time at Blake Dawson in Melbourne and Ashurst in Tokyo.
The Australian and UK qualified lawyer joins a team that was boosted a month ago by the promotion of Perth’s Jeffery Black and Sydney’s Tim Mornane.
 
Hong Kong lawyer among promotions at Skadden
Corporate lawyer Shu Du is the only Asia-Pacific promotion in the latest round from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom. The Hong Kong based lawyer becomes counsel along with 22 others, mostly based in the US.
