Clyde & Co has launched a new worldwide consultancy advising on smart contracts blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.

Clyde Code will advise insurers and clients in other sectors providing legal and technical advice to help with the burgeoning technology.

The consultancy will include Clyde and co-team led by partners Lee Bacon and Nigel broke in London Sally Sfeir Tait in Abu Dhabi and Christine Terplan in San Francisco.

Independent consultant Gary Nuttall will be the technical lead.

Ashurst launches smarter working initiative
Ashurst lawyers in the UK along will be able to choose the best times and places to work as part of a new smarter working initiative.

The ability to take control of where and how to work effectively and efficiently will also be available to business services and secretarial staff.

Ashurst‘s London managing partner Simon Beddow said that lawyers’ work is rarely based around set hours and other staff have also seen fundamental changes in working patterns driven by technology and client demand.

“Therefore we wanted to identify an innovative approach to address this which went beyond flexible working,” he said. “Individuals are now empowered to work from wherever and whenever they want provided that the requirements of our clients and teams are met with due consideration to confidentiality and security. It is about being trusted to deliver a best of class service whilst working around personal life patterns and choices."

Global firm adds trio of projects lawyers in China
The projects and project-related disputes teams at Herbert Smith Freehills in Greater China have been expanded by the hire of three partners.

Hew Kian Heong, Ellen Zhang and Michelle Li bring the firm’s headcount in Greater China to 27 partners and over 170 other legal professionals in Beijing Hong Kong and Shanghai.
