Former High Court judge joins Samoa Court of Appeal
Justice Rodney Hansen CNZM QC, a former High Court judge, has joined the Court of Appeal of Samoa.

With the appointment, he joins four other esteemed members of New Zealand’s legal profession on the bench. The bench also includes former High Court judge Hon Robert Fisher QC, who is presiding; former Court of Appeal judge Sir Robert Grant Hammond, KNZM; former Supreme Court judge Sir Peter Blanchard KNZM PC; and former High Court judge Sir Graham Ken Panckhurst KNZM QC.

Hansen is a mediator and arbitrator who’s part of Shortland Chambers in Auckland. He was admitted in 1969 and is a specialist in alternative dispute resolution, mediation, arbitration, dispute and conflict resolution, legal and litigation consulting, expert determinations, commercial disputes, and civil disputes.

He was a Simpson Grierson partner from 1976 to 1991, when he became a barrister sole. He took silk in 1995 and was a High Court judge from 1999 until his retirement in 2014.

The Court of Appeal of Samoa sits for two one-week sessions every year, the New Zealand Law Society said.
