Those who want to live the lawyer lifestyle like no one else are getting a rare chance to literally live inside the hallowed halls of a former courthouse.

Up for grabs at an auction later this month is a penthouse apartment in the former Auckland Magistrate’s Court on Kitchener Street.

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom, loft-style apartment, which is being marketed by UP Realty, is the largest of the four apartments of the historic Edwardian Baroque-style building. The building was designed by architect John Campbell and Claude Paton.

Built in 1912 with extensive use of Oamaru stone, the building’s façade is still virtually unaltered, according to Heritage New Zealand. It is listed as a historic place category 1 building with the agency.

The auction is expected to draw a high level of interest this coming 25 May, the Law Society said.
