Firm snags Pay Equity Awards gold

The firm was recognised for having no pay gap between men and women doing the same job.

Simpson Grierson was given the Gold Award for excellence at the YWCA Equal Pay Awards 2016.
 
The firm was recognised by Minister for Women Hon Louise Upston who presented the award for having no pay gap between men and women doing the same job.
 
Human Rights Commissioner Dr Jackie Blue also congratulated the firm and noted that the there is a 12% pay gap across New Zealand.
 
Based on current trajectories, it will take a further 80 years to achieve pay equity between men and women in New Zealand, said the firm, highlighting how rare a feat their achievement is.
 
“We have great men and women in the firm who would be shocked if we treated people any other way,” Simpson Grierson Human Resources Director Jo Copeland said.
 
“We simply look at the relativities every time we hire people and set pay rates based on experience, seniority and performance. It is as simple as that,” Copeland added.
 
Simpson Grierson’s competition for the award included AMP, Russell McVeagh and Sovereign.
