Entity management report reveals that New Zealand is the most efficient jurisdiction in APAC

New Zealand is the most efficient jurisdiction in the APAC region when it comes to entity management, according to the Special Report on Entity Management in the APAC region published by Mercator by Citco.

The report indicated that New Zealand maximised cost and time metrics. The country utilised a fully digitised entity management platform and set an English-language standard with minimal documentation requirements. It also implemented automated cross-border sharing with Australia and simplified corporate secretarial procedures, requiring less than 2.5 corporate secretarial tasks per entity as a reflection of minimal administrative demand.

Routine compliance processes in New Zealand were found to be cost effective, and corporate changes were processed quickly. New Zealand was second only to Malaysia and Singapore in terms of cost efficiency and processing times, respectively.

According to the report, the country displayed “the successful modernisation of corporate governance systems”. New Zealand overall provided a low-friction entity management environment to multinationals though overall, APAC entities needed 28.7% more entity management tasks than the global average.

“Our analysis reveals a stark reality in Asia-Pacific: organizations face a 29% higher workload managing their entities compared to global averages, driven by a growing digital divide across the region", Mercator by Citco head Kariem Abdellatif said in a press release. "While markets like New Zealand have fully embraced and embedded technology-enabled processes, others like Japan maintain more traditional requirements that significantly increase complexity and resources needed. This creates two distinct operational realities for multinational organizations”.
