Athlete says his asthma medication triggered the adverse urine test result

Four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome has reportedly tapped the servicing of a renowned sports lawyer to defend against accusations of doping.
According to ESPN, London-based Mike Morgan will help Froom respond to an inquiry from the International Cycling Union (UCI) over an adverse urine test result in the 2017 Vuelta a España. Froome’s use of asthma medication Salbutamol triggered the results.
According to Froome’s cycling team Team Sky, he has had asthma since childhood and uses an inhaler to take Salbutamol to prevent and ease symptoms brought on by exercise.
During the final week of the Vuelta, Chris experienced acute asthma symptoms. On the advice of the Team Sky doctor, he used an increased dosage of Salbutamol in the run-up to the 7 September urine test.
“I take my leadership position in my sport very seriously. The UCI is absolutely right to examine test results and, together with the team, I will provide whatever information it requires,” said Froome.
Morgan is known for his expertise in defending athletes accused of doping. Last year, his law firm, Morgan Sports Law, successfully acted for tennis superstar Maria Sharapova to reduce her ban from two years to 15 months, after she tested positive for a banned substance.
The law firm also helped champion cyclist Lizzie Armitstead clear herself from a doping charge last year.
