Aussie law firm confirms it’s facing shareholder class action
Slater and Gordon has confirmed that a class action proceeding has been filed against it by Babscay Pty Ltd, a shareholder of the company.

The action is on behalf of those who acquired an interest in shares of the company between 24 August 2012 and 19 November 2015 and alleges that certain statements made by the company were false or misleading. The claim has not been quantified.

Slater and Gordon says that it will defend the claims vigorously.

DWF launches in Singapore with Eversheds Sutherland hires
International law firm DWF has entered the Southeast Asia legal market with a new office in Singapore.

The firm has hired a team of four lawyers from Eversheds Sutherland including the firm’s former managing partner in the city state, Oommen Matthew.

The expansion is an important strategic step for the firm which has many clients already operating in Singapore.

The firm has opened two other international offices this year, in Paris and Berlin.

New Zealand launches bill for better access to justice
The government of New Zealand has introduced a bill to parliament which aims to improve public access to justice.

“The Legislation Bill will make it easier to find and access secondary legislation by requiring it to be published on the New Zealand Legislation website alongside Acts of Parliament,” said Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson.

If enacted, the Legislation Bill will mean a single official online source of information will be available, with the exception of local authority legislation.

“Implementation of the Legislation Bill will provide greater certainty for the public about their rights and obligations, reduce compliance costs and enhance Parliamentary scrutiny of secondary legislation,” Mr Finlayson said.
