Ashurst ousts 54 secretaries in London

Ashurst has confirmed that 54 secretarial roles have been made redundant in London in the aftermath of its secretarial function in the City.

A spokesperson told The Law Society Gazette that 25 executive assistants in London have accepted offers for the new practice executive role. The firm has also filled a majority of the 12 roles remaining, with hiring expected to conclude by the end of July.

The spokesperson also said that 54 full-time-equivalent roles have been made redundant out of the 80 roles that were at risk during the review.

“We recognise that this has been a difficult time for those directly affected by the changes and we aimed to deal with the process sensitively, openly and respectfully for those impacted. We have been very grateful to our staff for being engaged and professional through this time and we thank them for this,” said Claire Townshend, head of HR for EMEA and US.

Ashurst has 400 partners working out of 25 offices around the world. It has 161 partners in Australia, with offices in every capital city of all mainland states.
