The firm elevated a total of 10 lawyers, with the promotions taking effect this month

Anthony Harper has promoted commercial litigator Joey James to partner in a promotions cycle that also saw nine of his colleagues take on new roles effective 1 January.

James specialises in dispute resolution and is an expert in general civil disputes involving debt recovery amd insolvency. As a general litigator, he has handled insolvency/restructuring matters, contractual issues, and company law on behalf of insolvency practitioners and company executives. He advised the liquidators of CBL Insurance Limited in a highly complex litigation matter and significant discovery review that was recognised as Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year at the recently concluded 2023 NZ Law Awards.

He first joined Anthony Harper in 2015 before departing for a two-year overseas stint. He returned to the firm in 2020. He also gleaned in-house experience through working with a London bank.

James’ promotion will take effect after Law Society requirements are met.

 Meanwhile, Jordan Wright, Olivia Welsh, and Sarah Anderson were elevated to the role of special counsel.

Corporate lawyer Wright has been part of Anthony Harper since 2015. Her practice focuses on corporate M&A transactions, and she specialises in matters related to logistics, transport, and supply chain. She has also worked on issues in the food and beverage, hotels, manufacturing and exporting, and tourism sectors.

Anderson concentrates on construction and infrastructure law. She has provided advice on the legal aspects of construction projects, such as tendering, contract drafting, project administration, and dispute resolution. She has been with Anthony Harper since 2016.

Welsh specialises in health and safety. She offers advice on compliance and strategies to manage health and safety risks, both internally and in dealings with contractors, suppliers, and others.

She also guides clients in responding to workplace incidents, offering support and representation during investigations and prosecutions by WorkSafe New Zealand, as well as during coronial inquests. She joined Anthony Harper in 2019.
