No Australian lawyer was elevated
Clifford Chance has announced its latest partnership promotion round, six of whom are based in the Asia-Pacific region.
The global firm has 26 new partners, but no Australian lawyer made the grade this round. The six new partners from the Asia-Pacific region are Bryan Koo in Hong Kong, Hans Menski in Tokyo, Hong Zhang in Beijing, Satbir Walia and Thomas England in Singapore, and Yong Bai in Beijing.
Matthew Layton, Clifford Chance global managing partner, said that the group share a strong international mindset, with 80% all newly promoted lawyers having worked in more than one of the firm’s offices around the world.
“The make-up of this group also demonstrates the breadth and diversity that will underpin our future success,” Layton said.
The promotion round bolsters a wide range of areas that are increasingly critical for clients, Clifford Chance said. These areas include technology, antitrust, pensions, restructuring and insolvency. The promotions also strengthen strategically important practices such as M&A, funds, contentious disputes, projects, and structured finance, the firm said.
Clifford Chance has offices in Sydney and Perth, where it has seven and five partners, respectively. The firm has more than 80 lawyers in Australia.
