She said the ruling was not about compensation, but “about accountability and recognition”
A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian €1 to compensate for the theft of jewels from her Paris hotel room in 2016, reported The Associated Press.
According to a lawyer on the case, this was the amount Kardashian had requested. Her stylist, Simone Harouche, received the same amount, also per her request.
Kardashian and Harouche told AP News in a joint statement that it was “not about compensation.”
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” they said in the statement, which followed the court’s decision made on Tuesday September 15.
Last May 2025, the court, led by chief judge David de Pas, found eight people guilty of the robbery that took place on October 2, 2016. Two robbers impersonating police officers forcibly entered Kardashian’s suite in Paris’ Hôtel de Pourtalès, bound the celebrity with zip ties and tape, and sent her to a bathroom under orders to remain silent.
The robbers, six of whom are in their 60s and 70s, stole over US$6 million worth of jewelry during the incident, including a diamond ring and a watch given to Kardashian by her late father. The group – which sat trial for charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, and gang association – became known as “les papys braqueurs” – the grandpa robbers.
None were sent to jail, having served time in pretrial detention. They did not appeal the verdict.
A former Hôtel de Pourtalès receptionist who allegedly experienced trauma as a result of the crime received €109,516, per his lawyer Mohand Ouidja. The ex-receptionist asked for €550,000 in damages and interest.
The hotel itself received €50,000.
Kardashian expressed gratitude to the French authorities and said in a statement published by AP News that she remained committed to “advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system.”
“We are thankful to the court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal,” Kardashian and Harouche said in their joint statement.
According to AP News, the French lawyers representing Kardashian at the robbery trial did not respond to communications.
