Victorian commerce and industry chamber partners with Law Squared on business legal support line

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has partnered with Law Squared to roll out a business legal support line.

The service debuted on 1 July. Chamber members will be able to contact qualified legal professionals for help on commercial legal matters like commercial and procurement contracts, commercial and retail leasing, corporate governance, intellectual property, debt recovery and business disputes.

Assisting lawyers can help with assessing commercial contracts, supplier and customer agreements, terms and conditions, NDAs, consultancy agreements, software licensing and commercial risk. They can also aid in clarifying legal considerations for business establishment, restructures, governance, director responsibilities, capital raising, employee incentive plans and compliance obligations.

The team can also provide guidance on privacy, website compliance, data handling, Spam Act requirements and emerging regulatory changes, as well as on trade marks, IP licensing, brand protection and AI-related content considerations.

The business legal support line complements the chamber’s existing workplace relations advice line, which focuses on employment, workplace and industrial relations matters. According to the chamber, the business legal support line was born as a response to increasing demand for businesses requiring timely and accessible legal guidance.

“Good legal advice shouldn’t only be available once a problem becomes expensive. We regularly hear from businesses that they know they should seek legal guidance, but they put it off because they’re worried about cost or don’t know where to start”, said Sally Curtain, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s chief executive. “The reality is that a short conversation at the right time can help a business avoid costly mistakes, move faster and make better decisions”.

Chamber members may access the service by submitting on online enquiry, with Law Squared expected to respond within 24 hours. They may also call the support line’s number at 03 8662 5155.

All Victorian Chamber and Committee for Melbourne members will be given access to the business legal support line as a membership inclusion.

“We know from experience that a short conversation at the right moment can change the direction of a decision. It can unlock something a founder has been sitting on or help a leadership team move forward with confidence. That's what this partnership is about. Victorian Chamber members deserve that kind of support and we're proud to be the team to deliver it”, said Law Squared CEO Claire Sundin.
