The Utah Bar finally knows what led to that shocking email

The Utah Bar is no longer scratching its head.

The state bar has concluded its investigation into just how an image of a topless woman was included in an email sent to promote its recently concluded annual spring convention. The email was sent to all lawyers practicing in the state and prompted an apology and a promise of an investigation from the bar.

In another state-wide email, the Bar Commission said that they have determined that human error was the cause of the whole fracas.

“We have determined that a link to the inappropriate image was inadvertently added to the email as a result of human error. That error is being addressed as a personnel issue. The image was not contained on any of our databases or systems,” the bar said.

It also assured lawyers that the image link does not contain any sort of malware and does not present a threat to lawyers’ computer systems, software, or data.

“Your membership information remains secure. It was not hacked or compromised,” it said.

The bar also promised that it is taking steps to ensure the incident does not happen again.

“We sincerely apologize again for this incident and have committed to improving controls over our communications,” it said.
