Search over: New bar association head reveals priorities

A bar association head speaks with Australasian Lawyer about her new role.

The Victorian Bar’s incoming CEO, Sarah Fregon, speaks with Australasian Lawyer about her new role.

Her appointment follows an extensive search to replace the organisation’s CEO of seven years, Stephen Hare. She officially assumes the role in March.

Fregon, who has worked at the Bar previously, has also worked in both private practice and in-house, and is Chair of the Victorian Liquor Control Advisory Council.  She believes her breadth of experience will be advantageous in her new role.

“I think it provides a fairly rare perspective on the role of the bar.  I share the Bar’s commitment to excellence and believe that I can make a strong contribution to strengthening and broadening the role it plays in the services that we provide,” she said.

Fregon says she is looking forward to having the opportunity to build on the already strong reputation of the Bar.

“It is the leading source of independent, strategic legal advice, analysis and advocacy.  It provides a vital contribution the justice system both in providing strategic legal advice, services across both markets and in its contribution to policy, government, community,” she said.

“I look forward to supporting the important role the almost 2000 members of the Victorian Bar play in their positive contribution to the Victorian justice system and in particular building on the diversity of talent and skills in the profession.”
