Rigby Cooke assists Central Pier on settlement with Development Victoria

Rigby Cooke Lawyers has assisted Central Pier Pty Ltd and its sub-tenant Atlantic Group in reaching an undisclosed settlement with Development Victoria on a legal dispute.

The case centred on a Federal Court claim filed by Central Pier Pty Ltd against Development Victoria following an August 2019 incident in which Central Pier at Docklands had to be evacuated due to safety concerns related to its structural integrity. In Federal Court proceedings, Central Pier Pty Ltd alleged that as landlord, Development Victoria failed to sustain the pier’s maintenance and repair.

Rigby Cooke lead partner Demian Walton said that the team had “combed through almost a million business records to piece together the factual history and untangle complicated engineering and accounting questions” to achieve the outcome. He received support from associate Sascha Kenny.

Peter Bick KC and barrister Ben Petrie also advised Atlantic Group.
