PwC launches legal practice in Indonesia

The move comes after launching in Hong Kong earlier this year and in Singapore late last year

PricewaterhouseCoopers has added Jakarta-based law firm Melli Darsa & Co. (MDC) to its global network of firms.

MDC, which will continue to operate as an independent firm within the PwC network, was founded in 2002 by senior partner Melli Darsa. The firm specialises in corporate and commercial law work for a wide range of business clients.

Darsa said that the deal comes as firms see more and more companies looking for multi-disciplinary services, often with a single point of contact. In addition to improving services for clients, joining the PwC network also improves the development of the law firm’s team.

PwC Indonesia senior partner Irhoan Tunadiredja said that business and legal issues today are more intertwined than ever before. Multinationals in Indonesia and the region see value in working with a global professional-services firm, he said.

The launch of PwC’s legal practice in Indonesia comes after its launch in Hong Kong in March. PwC partnered with former King & Wood Mallesons and O’Melveny & Myers partners, who launched the PwC-member firm Tiang & Co.

In December, PwC tapped Ashurst and Norton Rose Fulbright lawyers to launch its Asia Pacific regional practice in Singapore.
