Six new Asia-Pac partners for DLA Piper
DLA Piper has announced its latest round of partner promotions with six of them from Asia-Pac including two in Australia. In total the firm has appointed 44 partners across 10 countries in this latest round of promotions. The Asia-Pacific promotions, which are effective May 1st are: Joel Cox (corporate) in Melbourne; Astrid Beemster (real estate) in Sydney; Benjamin Hirasawa (real estate) in Bangkok; Ashley Bell (litigation & regulatory) in Hong Kong; Lillian Duan (real estate) in Shanghai; and Lawrence Carter (employment) in Tokyo.
Clifford Chance appoints new capital markets head in Asia-Pac
Connie Heng has been appointed head of Clifford Chance’s capital markets practice in Asia-Pacific. She will be based in Hong Kong from May 1st and replaces Crawford Brickley who has held the role for the past ten years. He will continue as head of the US securities practice in the region and will return to Singapore where he was based for 13 years to bolster the South East Asia practice.
International firm announces new global chair
Norton Rose Fulbright has announced that its non-executive chair in the US will become its global chair from May 1st. Ken Stewart is a corporate partner based in the firm’s Dallas office and has over three decades experience. He is the first US partner to become global chair and succeeds Sbu Gule who is chair of NRF in South Africa. The global chair is an ambassadorial leadership role and is held for one year.
London firm arrives in Hong Kong
Another London-based law firm has become an international firm with a newly-opened office in Hong Kong. Lewis Silkin has three offices in the UK and the expansion overseas is in response to the growing employment and global mobility needs of its clients. The new office is in Hong Kong’s Universal Trade Centre and is headed by Antonia Grant who is an immigration and global mobility partner. She is joined by senior associate Scott Anderson and trainee Li Xiang together with support staff. Lewis Silkin will work with other law firms across Asia-Pacific through its membership of the Ius Laboris network of global employment, labour and pension law firms.
