Lawyer among Paris dead
A lawyer from Hogan Lovells was among the victims of the Paris terror attacks on Friday. Valentin Tibet was in the Bataclan concert venue where 89 people were killed by terrorists, he was just 26. The firm has paid tribute saying that he was “a talented lawyer, extremely well liked, and a wonderful personality in the office.” A statement on its website expresses shock in the wider tragedy and says that the firm’s thoughts are with Valentin, his family and colleagues in the office and throughout the firm.
 
Tony Corcoran re-joins A&O at Peerpoint Asia-Pac
Allen & Overy alumnus Tony Corcoran has re-joined the firm as managing director of Peerpoint Asia-Pacific. Corcoran brings experience from Australia, Hong Kong and London including senior roles at Macquarie and Lend Lease in Sydney; and running his own business in the financial and legal services sectors. His appointment comes as the firm expands its client service and follows the arrival of Richard Punt as Peerpoint CEO last year.
 
India's legal market reforms progressing
Plans to reform the legal profession and market in India have moved from theoretical to being more detailed according to reports. The Law Society Gazette says that sources close to negotiations between the Law Society of England and Wales and the bar councils of England and India are drawing up a memorandum of understanding which could be significant in opening up India’s legal market. The report says that foreign countries would be expected to allow Indian lawyers greater access to practise as part of a reciprocal agreement.
 
Baker & McKenzie wins major trademark award
Baker & McKenzie has won seven awards including “International trademark firm of the year” at the Asia IP Awards held recently in Japan. The Firm also won copyright firm of the year for China, Thailand and Hong Kong.
